AI receptionist / Plumbing

An AI receptionist for plumbers.
For calls you take from a crawlspace.

Plumbing callers often have water where it should not be. They want to reach someone now, and if they get voicemail they try the next number. An AI receptionist can answer while you are on a job, tell the caller where the shut-off usually is, and send active leaks to you with the address already taken.

Calls it meets

Four plumbing calls,
and who takes each one.

These are the calls a pilot is planned around. For each one: what the receptionist asks and records, and the point where a person takes over.

Saturday, 9:15 am, both plumbers on jobs

Water through the ceiling

The receptionist
Asks whether the caller can reach the main shut-off and records the address and where the water is coming from.
Then
Flagged as an active leak and sent to the team, as in the sample call below.
Weekday lunchtime

Slow drain or dripping tap

The receptionist
Takes the fixture, how long it has been happening, the address and good times for a visit.
Then
Queued as a routine job for the office to schedule.
Monday evening

No hot water

The receptionist
Asks whether the heater is gas or electric, its rough age, and whether there is water around the base.
Then
Leaking heaters go to a person straight away. Others become a next-day request.
Any time

Landlord or property manager

The receptionist
Records the tenant's address, the tenant's contact details, the issue and who approves the work.
Then
Sent to whoever handles account customers, with the approver named.

Tether / Sample conversation

would answer your call.

Saturday, 9:15 am · both plumbers are on jobs

  1. Tether · AI receptionist

Thanks for calling. Both plumbers are on jobs right now. I can take the details and get the right person to call you. What's happening?

  2. Caller

There's water coming through the kitchen ceiling. I think it's from the bathroom upstairs.

  3. Tether · AI receptionist

Okay. Do you know where your main water shut-off is? Turning it off now can limit the damage.

  4. Caller

Yes, it's under the stairs. I'll turn it off.

  5. Tether · AI receptionist

Good. I'm flagging this as an active leak and sending it to the team now with your address. Someone will call you back to confirm a time.

Tether: Good. I'm flagging this as an active leak and sending it to the team now with your address. Someone will call you back to confirm a time. Outcome: Active leak flagged: callback to confirm a time

OutcomeActive leak flagged: callback to confirm a time
  • Active leak
  • Ceiling damage
  • Water shut off
  • Address taken
  • Callback to confirm a time
Illustrative. In a pilot, what Tether records and who it alerts are agreed and tested with you first. It only books appointments where a tested booking connection is in place.

How Tether pilots work ↗

Boundaries

What it takes on.
What it never does alone.

A pilot starts by writing these lists down with you. They are a starting point for plumbing companies, not a fixed product.

Suits a pilot

  • Routine repair and installation requests
  • Water heater enquiries
  • Hours, service area and call-out fee if you publish one
  • Evening and weekend intake

Always a person

  • Active leaks and flooding
  • Sewage backing up into the property
  • Gas smell near a water heater: advise leaving and calling the gas company or 911 first
  • Anyone who asks for a person

What your team receives

  • Name and callback number
  • Address and access notes
  • Fixture or appliance and symptom
  • Whether water is shut off
  • Who approves the work

Answering service for contractors

An answering service,
or an AI receptionist?

A staffed answering service suits plumbing companies whose after-hours calls are mostly emergencies that need a calm human voice. An AI receptionist suits the routine calls in between: it asks the same plumbing questions every time and sends a structured request to you or your office, and it hands the emergencies to a person. Many contractors use one for each. See the full comparison.

How a pilot works

One call type first.
Your old route stays.

Setup is quoted in a written scope. Voice usage is billed by use and priced separately. Nothing goes live until test calls pass.

01

Pick the call

Usually routine repair and installation requests, or another routine request your team knows well.

02

Write the limits

The approved answers, the calls that go to a person and the fallback if nobody picks up.

03

Test it

Authorized test calls, including interruptions, odd questions and failed transfers.

04

Review together

Look at real requests and handoffs, then adjust, pause or expand.

Common questions

Plumbing AI receptionist,
answered.

Is it safe for an AI to give shut-off advice?

Only the general advice you approve, such as asking whether the caller knows where the main shut-off is. It does not diagnose, and anything beyond that approved line goes to a person.

Can it tell callers our emergency call-out fee?

Yes, if you give it the figure and when it applies. It will not invent or estimate a job price.

What if both plumbers are under a house and nobody picks up the handoff?

A fallback is agreed in the pilot, such as a second person, a text, or telling the caller honestly when to expect a call back. The pilot tests what happens when nobody answers.

How much does an AI receptionist cost for plumbing companies?

It is quoted per pilot. One-off setup covers the call flow, approved answers and handoff. Voice usage (telephone minutes, speech and model processing, number rental) is billed by use and priced separately, and depends on how many calls it takes and how long they last.

Is Tether available now?

Tether, the MoxiSync receptionist, is in development and offered through guided early-access pilots. There is no public live calling or self-service signup, and availability depends on your region and phone routing.
